Women's Basketball Survives for 71-64 win over M|State

The Anoka-Ramsey Women's Basketball team won their fourth straight game, surviving a scare from M|State Fergus Falls 71-64.

The Golden Rams outscored the Spartans 17-9 in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.

Five Anoka-Ramsey players scored in double figures led by 14 points apiece from Hailey Babcock and Piper Flemming.  Flemming knocked down four threes and added seven rebounds.

Demaiyah Hill (13), Mikayla Kanenwisher (12), and Lachantice Baggett (12) rounded out the double figure scorers, with Natiya Smith scoring six points and pulling in eight rebounds.

Anoka-Ramsey led 18-10 late in the first quarter, and looked poised to keep pulling away, but the Spartans closed the quarter with four straight, then added two more to begin the second to get back within two points.

Anoka-Ramsey closed the first half with a 14-8 spurt to lead 38-30 at the break, then extended the lead to 44-32 early in the third quarter before the Spartans rallied.  M|State used a 8-0 to get back within four points, then outscored Anoka-Ramsey by five the rest of the period to take a 55-54 lead into the fourth quarter.

Babcock knocked down a three to start the final quarter giving Anoka-Ramsey a 57-55 lead.  After a Spartan basket tied the score, Anoka-Ramsey went on an 8-0 run and never relinquished the lead from there.

Anoka-Ramsey forced 20 Spartan turnovers.

The Golden Rams improve to 10-1 overall, 1-0 in the MCAC Southern Division.  They will travel to Riverland on Saturday, January 8 for a 1:00pm tip.
