Golden Rams Enter Conference Play at 9-1

The Anoka-Ramsey Women's Basketball team picked up two more wins before the new year began to improve to 9-1 in non-conference games.

The Golden Rams beat Hibbing 102-28, then triumphed over Northland 56-52.

Mikayla Kanenwisher scored 25 points against Hibbing, leading the team in steals as well with five.

Lachantice Baggett (19), Demaiyah Hill (13), Piper Flemming (13), and Hailey Babcock (12) also scored in double figures as Anoka-Ramsey forced 37 Cardinal turnovers.

Against the Northland Pioneers, Anoka-Ramsey trailed for a good portion of the game, but used an 8-0 run to start the second half and take a 34-31 lead.

Northland would take a 42-41 lead early in the fourth quarter, but a jumper and free throw from Kanenwisher, and a basket by Babcock would give Anoka-Ramsey a six point cushion with 4:17 to play.

The Pioneers pulled back within three points with under three minutes to go, but the Golden Rams would go 6 for 6 on free throws down the stretcth to pull out the win.

Anoka-Ramsey shot just 1 of 17 from three, and was out-rebounded 46-31 by the taller Pioneers, but made up for it by forcing 28 turnovers, and making 17 of 23 from the free throw line.

Babcock led the team with 22 points, followed by Hill with 19.

Anoka-Ramsey will host M|State Fergus Falls in their first MCAC Southern Division match-up on Wednesday, January 5 at 5:30pm
