Golden Rams End Regular Season With Convincing Win

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women's Basketball team hit the century mark for the second consecutive game in defeating Western Tech 101-48 on Wednesday evening.

Last Saturday they defeated Ridgewater by a score of 112-60.

After falling behind 2-0 the Golden Rams used a 17-2 run on the strength of interior play with Daron Mainville scoring six points and Lexus Hughes with five points in the run.

The lead swelled to 23-5 before Western Tech closed out the period with a 5-0 spurt and the Golden Rams led 23-10 at the end of the first.

A layup from Eryn Eilertson, a three-pointer from Rashonna Thomas, and two layups from Hughes extended the lead to 32-17.

The Golden Rams defense picked up the pace with four minutes left, clamping down on the Cavaliers offense.

Leading 40-25 the Golden Rams allowed just two Cavalier points to close out the first half with a 46-27 lead.

Anoka-Ramsey put together their most impressive third period of the season, scoring 37 points while shooting 15 of 25 from the field to lead 83-44 entering the fourth period.

From there the defense took over, holding Western Tech to just four points in the fourth quarter and only one made field goal.

The Golden Rams shot 45.9 percent overall and 14 of 15 from the free throw line.

Thomas and Hughes each finished with 21 points with Hughes pulling in seven rebounds.

Makayla Paggen scored 14 points on 4 of 7 from the three-point line.

Kieara Hunter came off the bench to chip in 11 points to go with six rebounds.

Mainville scored ten points.

Za'Keea Sa'eed-El had a eight points, nine assists, six rebounds, and five steals.

The Golden Rams finish the regular season 19-6 overall, 9-1 in the MCAC Southern Division.

They will host the Region XIIIA tournament February 27-28.  Brackets will be released early next week.
