Women's Basketball Wins Fifth Straight

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women's Basketball team won their fifth straight game with a 71-54 win over Western Tech on Saturday afternoon in La Crosse, WI.

The Golden Rams led 9-8 with 4:34 left in the first quarter before going on a 8-2 run to pull ahead 17-10 following a three-pointer from Za'Keea Sa'eed-El with two and a half minutes left in the period.

Anoka-Ramsey would lead 23-14 at the end of the first after shooting 9 of 18 from the field and forcing seven Cavalier turnovers.

Consecutive three-pointers from Chaniya Rogers and Makayla Paggen to open the second quarter pushed the lead to 15 points.

The lead would stay in the double-digits throughout the second quarter and the Golden Rams would lead by as many as 20 before entering halftime with a 50-31 lead.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 51.4 percent in the first half and held Western Tech to just 37 percent.

Two Daron Mainville field goals gave the Golden Rams a 24 point lead early in the third period.

From there neither team could get much going on the offensive end as both teams finished the period shooting under 30 percent.

But the Golden Rams still maintained a 20 point lead, 61-41, entering the fourth quarter.

A Sa'eed-El three-pointer gave Anoka-Ramsey their largest lead of the game 66-41 and Western Tech would not threaten again.

The Golden Rams cooled off in the second half and finished the game shooting 35.6 percent to 34.6 percent for Western Tech.

The Golden Rams knocked down ten three-pointers and held the Cavaliers to no made three-point field goals.

Sa'eed-Ed scored 20 points making 8 of 14 from the field and 3 of 6 from the three-point line to go with eight rebounds and five steals.

Paggen scored 11 points.

Lexus Hughes recorded nine points and nine rebounds.

Anoka-Ramsey improves to 15-5 overall, 5-0 in the MCAC Southern Division.

The Golden Rams will travel to M|State Fergus Falls on Saturday, January 31 for a 1:00pm tip.
