Women's Basketball Defeats MN West

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women's Basketball team defeated Minnesota West 61-48 behind a dominant first half Wednesday in Worthington.

The Golden Rams trailed 6-4 with four minutes left in the first period before going on a 11-0 run to take a 15-6 lead and enter the second quarter with a 17-7 advantage.

A Daron Mainville field goal followed by a made shot from Eryn Eilertson pushed the lead to 21-7 early in the second period.

An 8-0 run midway thru the period would open up a 29-9 lead with three minutes to play before halftime and the Golden Rams would lead 31-13 at the break.

Minnesota West would mount a comeback in the third period, cutting the deficit to 35-25 with five minutes to play, but a 5-0 Golden Ram spurt pushed the lead back to 15 points.

Anoka-Ramsey led by 12 to start the fourth quarter, but Minnesota West would stage one last rally, cutting the Golden Ram lead to just eight points, 51-43 with 6:31 left in the game.

Chaniya Rogers and Kieara Hunter field goals pushed the lead back to 12 with 4:20 to play.

A 5-0 spurt by Minnesota West pulled the Lady Jays within 55-48 with 3:28 to play, but Minnesota West would fail to score again as Mainville and Lexus Hughes scored the final six points of the game for Anoka-Ramsey.

The Golden Rams held a 20-11 edge in offensive rebounds to offset a 3 of 23 performance from the three-point line.

Mainville finished with 25 points and 14 rebounds, eight on the offensive end.

Rogers would finish with ten points, and Hughes chipped in with nine.
