Golden Rams Sweep Weekend Games

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women's Basketball team travelled to Ironwood, Michigan for the Gogebic Community College Classic and came away with two wins.

 

Vs. Hibbing (W 85-60)

In Game One, the Golden Rams used a huge second quarter scoring outburst to pull away from the Cardinals, outscoring Hibbing 30-15 to build a 46-28 halftime lead.

Anoka-Ramsey forced 12 turnovers in the second period and shot 12 of 20 from the field.

The Golden Rams would build the lead to as many as 26 late in the game.

Anoka-Ramsey held Hibbing to just 38.3 percent shooting including just 1 of 8 from the three-point line, while also forcing 34 Cardinal turnovers.

Daron Mainville scored 27 points on 12 of 17 shooting.

Za'Keea Sa'eed-El scored 21 points making all seven of her free throw attempts.

Lexus Hughes pulled in a game-high ten rebounds.

 

Vs. Gogebic (W 72-61)

Facing the host Lady Samsons, Anoka-Ramsey fell behind 11-5 early, but used an 11-2 run capped by a Layana Wright-Ponder three-pointer to take a 16-13 lead near the end of the first quarter.

With the scored tied at 18 apiece, the Golden Rams went on a 7-0 run to pull ahead 25-18.

The Lady Samsons would battle back to pull within two at the break, 31-29.

Neither team shot well during the first half with Gogebic managing just 26.1 percent from the field to Anoka-Ramsey's 30.6 percent.  But Gogebic made 16 free throws to just four for the Golden Rams to kep the game close.

Gogebic opened the scoring in the third quarter to tie the game at 31, but from there it was all Anoka-Ramsey.

Lexus Hughes knocked down six free throws during a 12-0 run to pull ahead 43-31 and the Golden Rams never looked back in eventually building a 20 point lead.

Gogebic made a late run to pull within nine, but it wasn't enough as Anoka-Ramsey pulled out the win.

Hughes finished with 15 points to lead the scoring, making 9 of 12 from the free throw line.

Makayla Paggen scored 13 points while knocking down three three-pointers.

Chaniya Rogers chipped in 12 points.

Sa'eed-El pulled in a game-high ten rebounds.

Anoka-Ramsey improved to 4-3 on the season and will host Rainy River on Friday, December 4 at 6:00pm, and Hibbing on Saturday, December 5 at 1:00pm.
