Softball Splits with Riverland

Softball Splits with Riverland

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Softball team travelled to Austin, MN and earned a split with Riverland on Saturday, winning game one 9-2 but falling 14-7 in game two.

Anoka-Ramsey fell behind early when the Blue Devils scored two runs in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 2-0 lead into the 4th inning until the Golden Rams bats came to life.

Anoka-Ramsey strung together eight consecutive hits to score six runs in the inning and never looked back.

The inning was highlighted by a 3-run bomb hit by pitcher Quincy Gross (Columbia Heights).

Quincy would finish the game with 2 hits and 4 RBI's.

Also contributing multi-hit games at the plate were 1st base Lindsey Swanson (Irondale), shortstop Rebecca Liebelt (Columbia Heights) and right field Bailey Cole (Anoka).

Gross would pitch to get the complete game victory for her 10th win of the season and her 9th straight.

The second game did not start out well for the Golden Rams as they fell behind 10-0 after the first inning.

Nine of the ten runs were unearned due to multiple errors in the inning.

Anoka-Ramsey battled back to get within 12-7, but the hole that was dug early ended up being too much to overcome.

The team would finish the game committing nine errors and allowing 13 unearned runs.

"I don't care who you are and who you are playing, a team cannot make this many errors and expect to win. Unfortunately, we were sloppy defensively and it came back to bite us. We must refocus and dedicate ourselves to doing the little things better than everyone else", said Head Coach Dave Alto.

On the offensive side of the plate, four Golden Rams had multi-hit games led by 2nd base Shannon Olson (Andover) with 3 hits and getting 2 hits a piece were shortstop Ashton Prachar (Rush City), pitcher Lindsey Swanson and 1st base Lizzy Haugstad (Armstrong).

The Golden Rams are now 20-12 and 10-2 in MCAC Southern Division play. Next up for the team is a non-conference game on Monday, April 24 at the University of Northwestern – St. Paul.
