Softball Sweeps Central Lakes

Softball Sweeps Central Lakes

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Softball team continued their winning ways with a weekend sweep over Central Lakes College, 6-1 and 12-11.  The Golden Rams have now won 12 straight games.

The opening game was dominated by sophomore pitcher Quincy Gross (Columbia Heights). After giving up a lead-off homerun to open the 2nd inning, Quincy took her game to another level and shut down the Raiders the rest of the way.

Quincy finished with 16 K's while only surrendering 3 hits to pick up her 6th win of the season.

Offensively, the Golden Rams were also paced by Quincy who had 2 hits and a RBI.

Bailey Cole, sophomore catcher (Anoka) provided a huge base hit with two outs in the 2nd inning to knock in two runs as well.

Overall, the pace of the game was fast and well played by both teams.

The second game was a flat-out slugfest.

The Golden Rams took an early 3-0 lead heading into the top of the 3rd inning when the Raiders rebounded with five runs of their own, highlighted by a 3-run homerun, to take a 5-3 lead after three innings.

The top of the 4th inning saw Central Lakes score three more runs to take an 8-3 lead into the bottom of 4. Then with 2 outs in the bottom of the 4th, Anoka-Ramsey was the beneficiary of a walk and two errors followed up by an RBI from sophomore 2nd base Shannon Olson (Andover) and then a 2-run bomb by freshman pitcher Lindsey Swanson (Irondale) to knot up the game 8-8.

The game stayed tied until the 6th and 7th innings when the Raiders scored three more runs to take a 11-8 lead into the bottom of the 7th.

Swanson led off the bottom of 7 with a base hit. Following a fly-out and an error, freshman right field Karina Pritchard (Richfield) delivered an RBI single to right followed by another 2-run single in the 9-spot from freshman 3rd base JoJo Liebelt (Columbia Heights) to bring the Golden Rams within one run at 10-11.

A pop –up for the 2nd out brought up sophomore Alexus Martin-Warren left field (Andover) who delivered a clutch RBI single up the middle to tie the game at 11 all. Then with the bases loaded, Shannon Olson delivered a long base hit to right field for the game-winning hit.

Lindsey Swanson battled to pick up her 5th win.

Anoka-Ramsey is now 14-10 (4-0 in MCAC Southern Division play) with a battle on Tuesday, April 11 at home against conference and Region XIIIA favorite St. Cloud CTC at 3 and 5 pm.
