Softball Begins Southern Division Play With Sweep of M|State

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Softball team opened MCAC Southern Division play on Tuesday with a sweep over M|State Fergus Falls.

The Golden Rams won the first game 4-2, and took the second game of the doubleheader 11-5.

Coming off a 10-day break in between games, Anoka-Ramsey started off a little sluggish at the plate the first three innings of the first game not collecting any hits or runs.

Then in the 4th inning with a runner on second and two outs, Shannon Olson (SO, Andover) hit a base hit up the middle to score Ashton Prachar (FR, Rush City) to break the 0-0 tie.

Leading 1-0 in the 5th inning with two outs, the bats came alive again with JoJo Liebelt (FR, Columbia Heights) and Bailey Cole (SO, Anoka) getting base hits. Then with runners on 2nd and 3rd, Alexus Martin-Warren (SO, Andover) ripped a two-run single for the 3-0 lead.

The Golden Rams added another two out run in the 6th on a RBI from freshman Karina Pritchard (Richfield) for a 4-0 lead.

The Spartans came back with two unearned runs in the bottom of the 6th and that's how the final score ended.

Sophomore Quincy Gross (Columbia Heights) pitched the complete game notching her 5th win of the season striking out 12 while only surrendering four hits.  

Game 2 saw Anoka-Ramsey get off to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st, only to see M-State battle back and tie the score at 4-4 heading into the 6th inning.
Then the bats came alive again as the Golden Rams produced three runs on four hits and took a 7-5 lead into the 7th inning.
Karina Pritchard and Alexus Martin- Warren each delivered huge 2 RBI at-bats to help extend the Golden Ram lead to 11-5 and that's how the game finished.
Lindsey Swanson got the start and the "W" scattering 8 hits, striking out 5 and only giving up 1 earned run in 5.1 innings of work.
Quincy Gross came in from the bullpen in the 6th and shut the Spartans down the rest of the way picking up her 2nd save of the season.
Anoka-Ramsey is now 10-10 on the season, 2-0 in the MCAC Southern Division and riding an 8 game winning streak.
Next up for the Golden Rams are the first home games of the season with MCAC Southern Division opponent Riverland at 3 & 5 on Friday, April 7 and against Central Lakes on Saturday, April 8 at 12 and 2 pm.
