Ron begins his 14th season at the helm of the Golden Rams in 2021-22. Prior to taking over at Anoka-Ramsey, Ron was the Head Boys’ Basketball Coach at St. Francis High School for 28 years while also serving as the school’s Athletic Director for 20 years. He compiled 473 wins in his high school coaching career and was inducted into the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He led three teams to the MSHSL State Tournament and coached numerous All-Conference players.  In December 2021 he was inducted into the St. Francis High School Hall of Fame.  He also coordinates the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association clinic, the largest basketball clinic in the state of Minnesota.

In his first season at Anoka-Ramsey (2008-2009), the Golden Rams posted a 6-21 record. In 2009-2010 the team showed improvement as they went 10-17 and had two players receive MCAC All-Southern Division honors, with one of those players being named to the All-MCAC team. The 2009-2010 team finished 5th in the nation in 3-point field goals made with 239 total (8.8 per game) while averaging over 78 points per game.

The 2010-2011 season saw the Golden Rams finish with an overall record of 22-8 and 8-4 in the MCAC Southern Division; good for a 3rd place regular season finish.  The Golden Rams made a late-season run to the NJCAA Region XIII tournament championship game where they fell to Rochester in overtime.  Highlights from the season were upsets of #3 ranked Central Lakes on the road, as well as upsetting #1 ranked Rochester on the road.  Sophomore Trey Scott earned All-MCAC honors after leading the Southern Division in scoring (21.4 points per game) and steals (4.7 per game).

The 2011-2012 season was eerily similar to 2010-2011 as the team again finished 22-8 overall and 8-4 in the MCAC Southern Division.  However, this time the Golden Rams lost in the Region XIII semifinals and defeated Rochester in the third place game.  Four Golden Rams were named All-Southern Division, with one earning All-MCAC honors.  Two players also received NAIA scholarships to continue their athletic and academic careers.

In 2012-2013 the Golden Rams finished 16-14 overall and again placed third in the Region XIII tournament with one All-MCAC player.

Coach Larson's sixth season at the helm (2013-2014) resulted in a then school-record 24 wins and just the second Region XIII Championship in program history, advancing to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament in New York where the team finished sixth.  Coach Larson earned Region XIII Coach of the Year honors as well as NJCAA District 4 Coach of the Year.  Three Golden Rams earned All-MCAC honors with Trenton Pollard being named the Region XIII Tournament MVP, and Lemuel Doe earning a spot on the NJCAA Division III National Tournament All-Tournament team.

The 2014-2015 season started out slowly as the Golden Rams dropped four of their first five games.  But the team regrouped and finished 19-11 overall after defeating Central Lakes in the Region XIII tournament third-place game.  Guard Trenton Pollard earned Honorable Mention All-America honors.

The Golden Rams finished 16-13 in 2015-2016 with two All-MCAC players and one All-Region XIII player.

On January 3, 2016 the Golden Rams defeated NJCAA Division I opponent North Dakota State College of Science 87-81; earning Coach Larson the 600th win of his head coaching career (473 wins in high school).

In 2016-2017 the Golden Rams recorded the best season in school history winning 28 games, including a 19-0 mark at home, and capturing the MCAC Southern Division title.  The team went on to win the Region XIII Championship and finished 4th in the NJCAA National Tournament.  The Golden Rams spent the entire regular season ranked in the national polls, and ascended to the #1 ranking on two occasions; a first in program history.  Anoka-Ramsey also earned their first-ever #1 seed in the NJCAA National Tournament.

2017-2018 saw the Golden Rams repeat as MCAC Southern Division champions and finish as the NJCAA Region XIII tournament runner-up while winning 19 games.  Sophomore Kevin Schramm earned NJCAA Division III Honorable Mention All-American honors.

The 2018-2019 Golden Rams finished 17-12 overall, 9-5 in the MCAC and earned the #3 seed from the Southern Division in the NJCAA Region XIII playoffs where they fell in the semifinals.  Sophomore Justin Castro was named NJCAA Division III Honorable Mention All-America.

The 2020-2021 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ron and his wife Lani reside in St. Francis. They have three sons, Brady, Jay, and Rory, as well as six grandchildren.
