Women's Basketball Improves to 6-0 with Weekend Sweep

The Anoka-Ramsey Women's Basketball team remained undefeated on the season with two more wins last weekend.

On Friday night the Golden Rams ran away from Itasca for a 90-45 victory, while on Saturday they defeated Northland 60-48.

Facing off against the Itasca Vikings, Anoka-Ramsey used a big first quarter to take a commanding lead.  The Golden Rams led 15-8 midway thru the quarter but closed on a 16-3 run holding Itasca scoreless over the last 3:30 of the quarter.

A 10-0 second quarter run grew the lead to 31 points and Anoka-Ramsey settled for a 54-26 halftime lead.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 43.6 percent overall and forced 38 Itasca turnovers.  The Golden Rams also had 18 offensive rebounds to just seven for the Vikings.

Six Golden Rams reached double figures scoring led by 18 points from Destiny Casey on 7 of 15 shooting to go with seven rebounds.

CeCe Bell had a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds.

Janea Arnoldi had 12 points making 6 of 7 field goals.  Kimori Morris and Toni Williams each had 11 points, with Mikayla Kanenwisher scoring ten.

On Saturday Anoka-Ramsey faced Northland in the second of three matchups this season.

In the first match Anoka-Ramsey defeated a shorthanded Northland squad 92-47, but on Saturday at full strength Northland provided a stiffer challenge.

The Pioneers led 10-8 after the first quarter, but a stifling Anoka-Ramsey defense in the second quarter held Northland to just three points and Anoka-Ramsey led 29-13 at halftime.

Northland pulled within eight points with 2:30 to go in the third quarter but a 6-0 run to end the period provided Anoka-Ramsey with some cushion.

The Golden Rams extended the run with six straight to begin the fourth quarter and effectively put the game away.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 42.2 percent and 9 of 26 from three while holding Northland to just 28.6 percent shooting and 3 of 18 from three.

The Golden Rams held a 53-29 edge in rebounds.

Bell scored 13 points and Williams added 12.  Kanenwisher scored nine points, pulled in nine rebounds, and dished out five assists.

Ah'Janay Yancy scored nine points on 4 of 7 shooting.

The Golden Rams will host St. Kate's JV on Monday at 4pm, and Hamline JV on Tuesday at 5pm.
