Second Half Struggles Doom Women's Basketball

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women's Basketball team struggled shooting from the field and ultimately fell 67-56 to Rochester Community and Technical College on Wednesday night.

The Golden Rams and Yellowjackets were locked in a defensive battle during the first quarter as neither team scored in the first five minutes.

Lateah Turmon got Anoka-Ramsey on the board first, and consecutive threes from Amanda Lindsay and Alyssa Correll gave the Golden Rams a 8-2 lead.

Another three from Lindsay and a layup by Turmon pushed the lead to 13-5, but a late Rochester three cut the lead to 13-8 at the end of the first.

Rochester started the second quarter on a 8-3 run to tie the score 16-16, but Anoka-Ramsey responded with a 13-5 run to go ahead 29-21 at halftime.

The third quarter was much like the first for both teams with the only points in the first five minutes coming on a Rochester jumper as Anoka-Ramsey led 29-23.

But the Golden Ram offense continued to stall as Rochester bulit a 33-29 lead with 1:14 left in the third.  The Anoka-Ramsey drought finally ended with two Lindsay free throws and the Golden Rams went on a 9-4 run to end the quarter and lead 38-37 entering the fourth.

Rochester scored the first six points of the fourth quarter to lead 43-38, but Anoka-Ramsey would tie the score 46-46 with 4:52 to play.

Rochester took a 53-52 lead with 3:01 to play but would outscore the Golden Rams 14-4 over that final three minutes.

Anoka-Ramsey shot just 27.3 percent from the field while Rochester connected on 43.1 percent of their field goals.

Lindsay finished with 23 points.

Rashonna Thomas scored 12 points.

Dariel Lipscomb pulled in 18 rebounds.

Turmon, Correll, and Meagan McKernon each scored seven.

Anoka-Ramsey drops to 16-8 overall, 9-2 in the MCAC Southern Division.

The Golden Rams travel to Ridgewater on Saturday, February 25 for a 1:00pm tip.
