Softball Closes Regular Season with Wins at MN West

Anoka-Ramsey traveled to Worthington, Minnesota for their final series of the regular season, and were able to walk away with a sweep despite being down a number of regular starting players due to final exams. The #9 ranked Golden Rams were able to pile on the runs late in the first game and hold the Lady Jays to just three runs in the second game to secure the sweep. The Golden Rams have now finished the regular season on a six-game winning streak that they hope will roll over into the postseason, which starts on Thursday in the regional tournament.

In the first game, Anoka-Ramsey started relatively slow, scoring just four runs through the first three innings, and were trailing 5-4 after the third inning. The Golden Rams would rally though, as they tacked on two in the fourth, one in the fifth, and six in the seventh to defeat the Lady Jays via the run rule in game one. Lyla Galli was effective as the starting pitcher, as she struck out nine while allowing six hits. Galli finishes the regular season with a record of 10-4. At the plate, Emma Bright was perfect again, as she went 5-5 with a double, three stolen bases, and an RBI. Lyla Galli was 3-4 with a double and three RBIs. McKenna Packard was also 2-4 at the plate. Although the game was close early, the Golden Rams went on to win game one with relative ease, by a score of 14-5 in six innings.

Game two was similar to the first, as the Golden Rams started slow, leading only 3-0 after four innings before piling on the runs in the later innings to secure the win. Maddie Bottineau started her second game of the year and picked up her second win, as she struck out three while allowing just three hits in four innings of work. She finishes the regular season with a record of 2-0. Sunny Strait pitched the final three innings of the game for the Golden Rams, striking out one while keeping MN West hitless in those frames. At the plate, Emma Bright impressed again, going 2-3 with an RBI. Marissa Kerry was a perfect 4-4 with two RBIs. Sunny Strait was also 2-4 with a double and two RBIs. The Golden Rams played seven innings for the first time in a while, but ultimately took down the Lady Jays 8-3 in game two.

Those two games concluded regular season play for the Golden Rams, meaning that they finished the season with a program record 31 wins and only 12 losses. The Golden Rams conference record for the year was 17-3, with all three defeats falling at the hands of the Cyclones of St. Cloud Tech. Coach Dave Alto was happy to finish the regular season on a high note, saying that it was "nice to see the team hit the ball so well today and to end the season on a couple of wins." Looking forward to the postseason, Alto said, "It's a brand new season, and we will look to be the best team that plays on Thursday and Friday".

The Golden Rams are next in action on Thursday, May 12th, when the Region XIIA tournament kicks off in Waite Park. The Golden Rams are first scheduled to play Rochester CTC on Thursday morning at 10AM, and depending on the results of that game, will play later in the day on Thursday, likely either at 2 or 4PM. The tournament is a double-elimination tournament, and will feature the Golden Rams of Anoka-Ramsey Community College, the Cyclones of St. Cloud TCC, the Yellowjackets of Rochester CTC, and the Lady Jays of Minnesota West. The winners of the tournament will advance to the National Tournament.
