Golden Rams End Season 3rd in Region XIIIA Tournament

The Anoka-Ramsey Softball team finished 3rd in last week's Region XIIIA Tournament held in Cambridge.

The Golden Rams, the tournament's #1 seed, opened with a very impressive 20-3 win over MN West in 5 innings.

Anoka-Ramsey fell behind 3-0 after just ½ inning of play, but the team responded with five runs of their own and never looked back. The Golden Rams hit a team record by knocking six homeruns in the game to go along with 21 hits.

Every team member had at least one hit and were led by Emma Bright's perfect 4-4 with 5 stolen bases and Sunny Strait's 2 HR's and 6 RBI's. Strait also picked up her 14th win of the season in the circle.

Day 2 of the tournament didn't go as well for the Golden Rams.

In the battle of undefeated teams, Anoka-Ramsey faced a powerful NDSCS squad and lost by a score of 9-2. Maddie Bottineau pitched very well keeping their hitters off balanced, but the Golden Rams couldn't muster up enough offense to keep pace.

McKenna Packard had one of the team's six hits which included a bomb hit to right center field.

With this loss, the team dropped down to the loser's bracket to face the St. Cloud Tech Cyclones and lost by the score of 12-1. Anoka-Ramsey could only muster three hits, and defensively committed six errors.

Overall, the Golden Rams finished the season 17-11 to go along with the MCAC Southern Division title.

"I thought we had a tremendous season", said Head Coach Dave Alto. "The team battled playing through a pandemic and all that went along with that, won a Division Championship, hosted the Region Tournament as the #1 seed, and grew not only as players, but more importantly as people. I couldn't be more proud of this group of young women".
