Golden Rams Sweep Dakota County Tech

Golden Rams Sweep Dakota County Tech

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Softball team traveled to Rosemount on Saturday, April 28 to play Dakota County Tech and came away with the 2-game sweep by scores of 4-2 and 1-0.

These were big wins for the team after just dropping a doubleheader less than 24 hours earlier.

In the opening game of the doubleheader, Anoka-Ramsey fell behind 2-0 after one inning of play. The Golden Rams got one back in the top of the 2nd with a perfectly executed double steal to make the score 1-2 after two innings of play.

Then in the top of the third with one out, Mickey Guenther hit a single, followed up by a single from Breanna Stang.

With runners on 1st and 2nd and one out, Lindsey Swanson laced a double to right center scoring both runners. Another single by Ashley Stepaniak put runners at the corners and Karina Pritchard knocked in the third run of the inning for a 4-2 lead.

This would be all of the runs that Golden Rams would need. Lindsey Swanson was on top of her game in the circle only allowing four hits and no earned runs. At one point, Swanson retired 13 batters in a row.

The nightcap of the doubleheader was a pitcher's duel. Neither team could get the clutch hit to put any runs up on the board until the top of the 7th inning.

Cleopatra Nystrom led off with a base hit and stole 2nd base. Guenther followed with a base hit of her own putting runners at the corners with no one out. After an out, Swanson was walked to load the bases.

With the bases loaded, Stepaniak executed a perfect suicide squeeze scoring Nystrom from 3rd base for the one and only run of the game. Swanson was once again dominant in the circle giving up only four hits while pitching the shut-out. Lindsey is now 13-6 on the season.

The Golden Rams are now 21-12 overall and 6-2 in the MCAC Southern Division. This is the 4th consecutive year that Anoka-Ramsey has won 20 + games. Next up for the team is a home match-up with M-State out of Fergus Falls on Tuesday, May 1 at 3pm and 5pm.
