The Anoka-Ramsey Men's Soccer team defeated Riverland 4-0 to win the NJCAA Region XIII Championship on Sunday afternoon.
The teams faced off twice in the regular season with the teams playing to a draw in the first match-up, and Anoka-Ramsey winning the second.
Anoka-Ramsey got an early goal from Eloy Demarquet, giving the Golden Rams momentum that resulted in two more goals before halftime, one from Martin Garr off a free kick and another from Mohamed Mursal.
Hanad Osman scored in the second half to push the lead to the final margin of 4-0 as the Golden Rams recorded their second straight clean sheet of the season.
"The boys played hard from the moment the whistle blew," said head coach Qassim Ilmi. "Our game plan was simple, start strong early and finish our chances. Leading by three goals at halftime is something all coaches dream of, and it was a situation we would find ourselves in against a great Riverland team. We can't wait to represent our school and Region at the Midwest District tournament this weekend."
Anoka-Ramsey advances to the Midwest District Tournament October 29-30 at Harper College in Palatine, Illinois. Game times are to be determined.
