Golden Rams Earn Weekend Split with Rainy River, CLC

The Anoka-Ramsey Men's Basketball team split their weekend series with Rainy River and Central Lakes this past weekend.

The Golden Rams beat Rainy River on Friday night 62-60 before falling to Central Lakes 82-67 on Saturday.

Against the Voyageurs from Rainy River, Anoka-Ramsey had a hard-fought victory.  The Golden Rams led by ten at halftime thanks to an 11-4 run to end the first half.

Anoka-Ramsey built the lead to 40-25 early in the second half before Rainy River closed to within 45-41 with 11 minutes to go.

Consecutive jumpers from Isaiah Woodstock built the Golden Ram lead back up to eight points, and Devin Wade-Henderson scored to push the lead to ten.

The Voyageurs made another run to close within four points, 56-52 with three minutes left, then cut the deficit to three, 60-57 with 14 seconds to play.  But Jacob Say made two clutch free throws to put Anoka-Ramsey back up by five, and a Rainy River three at the buzzer made the final margin just two points.

Anoka-Ramsey held Rainy River to 38.7 percent shooting including just 4 of 19 from three.  The Golden Rams made 15 free throws compared to just eight for the Voyageurs.

Four Golden Rams scored in double figures led by 13 apiece from Say and Wade-Henderson.

Ontario Chapman scored 12 points to go with 11 rebounds, with Woodstock adding ten points.

On Saturday, Anoka-Ramsey faced rival Central Lakes.  Despite shooting 11 of 26 from three (42.3 percent), the Golden Rams managed just 37.5 percent overall from the field and committed 24 turnovers in the loss.

Anoka-Ramsey trailed 23-22 with under seven minutes left in the first half before the Raiders used an 8-1 spurt to extend the lead and took a 42-33 advantage into halftime.

After puilling within 42-35 early in the second half, the Golden Rams went cold.  Central Lakes rattled off the next eight points to build a 15 point lead, and extended it to 62-40 with 12 minutes to play.

Back to back threes from Woodstock and Roland Washington triggerd a 12-0 Golden Ram run to pull within ten points, culminated with another Woodstock three.

But the Raiders kept Anoka-Ramsey at bay, never letting the Golden Rams get closer than nine the rest of the way.

Chapman led Anoka-Ramsey with 23 opints on 8 of 16 shooting including 5 of 8 from three.

Washington scored 18 points, making 6 of 12 field goals and 3 of 5 threes.

The Golden Rams fall to 3-2 overall and will host Fond du Lac on December 3rd at 7:30pm, before getting a rematch with Central Lakes at home on December 4th at 2:00pm.
