Men's Basketball Defeats Riverland 92-77

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Men's Basketball team moved to 2-0 in MCAC Southern Division play with a 92-77 win over Riverland Community College.

Anoka-Ramsey began slowly on the offensive end but pulled ahead 22-15 after two Edvonte Copeland free throws.

A 6-0 run by Riverland cut the Golden Ram lead to 22-21 and the score would be knotted at 27 apiece with 2:36 left in the first half.

A three-point play by Mamadou Ngom, followed by a three-pointer from Zane Lind put Anoka-Ramsey back up 33-27 and they would go into the break up 35-31.

Two more Ngom free throws, a Malik Williams layup, and two Copeland layups were part of an 8-0 spurt early in the second half to pull ahead 52-40.  

The Golden Rams extended the advantage to 13 points, 61-48 after two Mamadou Ngom free throws, then to 67-53 after a Ngom three-point play and the lead would not get back down into single digits the remainder of the game.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 55.9 percent for the game, including 70.4 percent (19-27) in the second half.

The Golden Rams also held a 20-10 edge in made free throws, and won the boards 39-31.

Ngom finished with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Copeland scored 18 points.

Kevin Schramm had 15 points on 6 of 10 shooting.

Chris Morgan chipped in 14 points making 5 of 7 shots from the field, and Lind scored 13 points on 5 of 6 shooting.

Anoka-Ramsey is now 14-1 overall, 2-0 in the MCAC.  The Golden Rams are on the road twice next week, first on Wednesday at M|State Fergus Falls at 7:45pm, then to St. Cloud Tech on Saturday for a 3:00pm tip.
