Women's Basketball Wins MCAC Southern Division Title

The Anoka-Ramsey Women's Basketball team dispatched of MN West 72-43 on Monday afternoon to claim the MCAC Southern Division Championship, with one regular season game remaining.

The Golden Rams cliched the title and the right to host the NJCAA Region XIIIA tournament February 29-March 1 with their 11th straight win.

Anoka-Ramsey dominated the first and third quarters defensively allowing just 11 points in the two quarters combined in holding the Lady Jays to 4 of 28 shooting.

Anoka-Ramsey scored the first seven points of the game, and led 15-4 early in the second quarter before MN West went on a 14-5 run to pull within 20-18.

Ariana Owens knocked down a three, followed by a Raiyne Adams layup to push the lead back to seven points.  MN West responded with a three of their own, and the teams traded baskets to end the half with Anoka-Ramsey ahead 27-23.

But the Golden Rams proved to be too much in the third quarter, scoring the first 20 points to lead 47-23 with two minutes to go in the period.

MN West was unable to threaten the rest of the game.

The Golden Rams made 13 of 37 threes for the game and outrebounded the Lady Jays 45-29.

A balanced attack saw four Golden Rams in double figures scoring led by 15 point from Owens who made 5 of 8 from three.

Bonita Franco scored 13 points.

Charo Nickens added 12 points and 15 rebounds, with Raiyne Adams also recording a double-double with 12 ponits and ten rebounds.

The Golden Rams improve to 19-5 overall, and remain unbeaten in the MCAC at 9-0.

Anoka-Ramsey will travel to Western Tech on Saturday, February 22 for their final regular season game.
