Women's Basketball Wins Fourth Straight, 71-65 over SCTCC

The Anoka-Ramsey Women's Basketball team won their fourth straight game, toppling St. Cloud Tech 71-65 on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Rams trailed 21-19 after the first period, and trailed 35-29 with 4:03 to go in the second before using an 11-0 run to end the half and take a 40-35 lead into halftime.

Charo Nickens scored seven points in the run, with Adaya Sandifer adding the other four points.

Anoka-Ramsey continued to build on their lead in the third quarter, eventually taking a 16 point lead with 2:19 to go in the third quarter.

The Cyclones mounted their comeback in the fourth quarter as the Golden Rams went cold, failing to score for the first five minutes of the fourth quarter as St. Cloud Tech rallied to within 58-54 with 4:26 left.

A layup from Sandifer pushed the lead back to six, but SCTCC used a 7-0 run to take a 61-60 lead.

Raiyne Adams knocked down one of two free throws to knot the score at 61, followed by a Sandifer jumper for a 63-61 lead.

The Cyclones tied the score on their next possession, then took a 65-63 lead with two minutes to play.

Two more free throws from Adams tied the score again, and Sandifer stole the ball on the next Cyclone possession going in for a layup and a two point lead.

Another forced turnover got the ball back again for the Golden Rams, and Adams would connect on a layup after an Anoka-Ramsey timeout to go up by four and hold on for the win.

Anoka-Ramsey shot just 30 percent overall but forced 30 Cyclone turnovers leading to 21 more shot attempts.

Sandifer scored 28 points to lead Anoka-Ramsey.

Adams added 16 points and eight rebounds.  Nickens chipped in 14 points.

Anoka-Ramsey improves to 12-5 overall, 3-0 in MCAC play.  Next up, the Golden Rams host Western Tech on January 29 at 5:30pm.
