Golden Rams Drop Two to NJCAA DI Opponents

The Anoka-Ramsey Women's Basketball team went on the road over Thanksgiving, traveling to Arizona to take on two NJCAA Division I opponents, but came away empty-handed falling to Laramie County 67-54 and host Arizona Western 74-62.

Despite the losses, the Golden Rams fared very well against the scholarship-level schools.

In Friday night's loss to Laramie County, the Golden Rams led at halftime 29-25, but a slow third quarter doomed Anoka-Ramsey as they were out-scored 26-12.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 28.6 percent overall and made 7 of 34 three-point attempts, but managed to stay in the game by forcing 27 turnovers.

Raiyne Adams led Anoka-Ramsey with 13 points.  Charo Nickens added ten points while Bonita Franco chipped in with nine off the bench.

In Saturday's contest vs. Arizona Western, the Golden Rams started out slow allowing 26 points in the first quarter to fall behind 26-12, and trailed 44-26 at halftime.

The Golden Rams started to threaten in the fourth quarter but couldn't mount a comeback in falling short.

Nickens scored 19 points to go with 18 rebounds, making 7 of 11 shots from the field.

Chloe Vezies scored 14 points making 4 of 8 from three.

Adams scored 14 points on 4 of 7 shooting.

Anoka-Ramsey falls to 3-3 overall, with all three losses coming to higher division schools.

Next up is a home date with Central Lakes at 5:30pm on Tuesday, December 3.
