Women's Basketball Suffers First Loss of the Season

The Anoka-Ramsey Women's Basketball team put up a valiant fight against the Highland Scotties, before falling 93-79 on Saturday afternoon.

Highland entered the game ranked #10 in the nation in NJCAA Division II, while Anoka-Ramsey was #7 in NJCAA Division III.

The Golden Rams led for the entire first half, went up 45-30 following a three-point play from Raiyne Adams to start the third quarter.

But the Scotties began chipping away at the deficit.

The 15-point lead dwindled to five with 6:55 left in the third, then Highland tied it a 46 apiece with five minutes left in the period.

Highland led 54-53 with 2:53 left in the third, then went on a 10-1 run to push the lead to 64-54.

Anoka-Ramsey would only get as close as six the rest of the way after an Adams layup early in the fourth, but a 7-0 spurt from Highland pushed the lead back into double digits.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 36.8 percent overall and made 27 of 34 free throws in a foul-plaqued game.  The Scotties out-rebounded the Golden Rams 49-35 and committed 17 turnovers to 28 for Anoka-Ramsey.

Adams led Anoka-Ramsey in scoring with 18 points making 9 of 10 free throws.

Chloe Vezies also scored 18 points making 4 of 8 threes.

Adaya Sandifer chipped in ten points.

Anoka-Ramsey falls to 3-1 overall and is off until traveling to Arizona November 29-30.
