Big First Quarter Propels Golden Rams to Win

The Anoka-Ramsey Women's Basketball team used a big first quarter on the defensive end to run away from Central Lakes 81-50 on Wednesday evening in Brainerd, MN.

The Golden Rams held the Raiders to just four points on 2 of 10 shooting in the opening period to take a 21-4 lead.  Conversely, Anoka-Ramsey shot 9 of 17 for 52.9 percent in the first quarter.

Central Lakes opened the second quarter scoring the first five points and looked like they were poised to get back into the game, but five points from Raiyne Adams, and five more from Bonita Franco pushed the lead up to 34-11.

From there the Golden Rams closed the half on a 16-7 run to lead 40-18 at halftime.

Anoka-Ramsey kept their foot on the gas, pushing the lead to as many as 35 points in the fourth quarter to open the season 3-0.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 39.7 percent overall and made 11 threes, while holding Central Lakes to just 30.8 percent shooting and 3 of 18 from three.

Ariana Owens led the Golden Rams with 19 points, followed by Adams with 15.

Anoka-Ramsey returns home to host Highland (KS) on Saturday, November 16 at 1:00pm.
