Women's Basketball Triumphs Over M|State

The Anoka-Ramsey Women's Basketball team earned a hard-fought 79-62 win over M|State Fergus Falls on Saturday afternoon in Fergus Falls to impove to 19-4 overall, 7-1 in the MCAC.

The Golden Rams jumped out to an early 9-2 lead and extended it to 24-13 late in the first quarter before a free throw from the Spartans left the score at 24-14 after one.

Charo Nickens scored the first nine points of the second quarter for Anoka-Ramsey to push the lead to 33-14.

M|State responded with a 15-3 run to pull within 36-29.  Nana Montgomery conntected on a three to give the Golden Rams a 39-29 lead and Anoka-Ramsey went into halftime up 44-33.

After the Spartans cut the deficit to nine points, 46-37, Anoka-Ramsey went on a 17-4 run over the next seven minutes to lead 63-41.

The Spartans closed the third quarter on a 5-0 spurt and the teams played an even fourth quarter for the final margin.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 47.1 percent overall and held the Spartans to 41.8 percent.

Charo Nickens scored 34 points on 15 of 21 shooting to go with 13 rebounds.

Mikayla Homola added 23 points making 9 of 21 shots.

Chloe Vezies scored ten points off the bench.

The Golden Rams will travel to Rochester on Wednesday, February 13 for a 5:30pm tip.
