First Half Defense Leads Way to Win over M|State

The Anoka-Ramsey Women's Basketball team forced 20 turnovers in the first half leading to a 95-67 win over M|State Fergus Falls in MCAC action Wednesday night.

The Golden Rams' pressure defense is forcing over 30 turnovers per game aided in part by the 33 committed by M|State.

Anoka-Ramsey capitalized to the tune of 39 points off those turnovers.

The Spartans attemted 37 less shots as the Golden Rams held a 20-8 edge in offensive rebounds.

Anoka-Ramsey started the game on a 8-0 run and pushed the lead to 15 on a Raiyne Adams layup with five minutes left in the opening period.

A Maddy Craig layup and a three from Adaya Sandifer extended the lead to 21 early in the second quarter as the lead rose to over 30 points just before halftime.

The Spartans took better care of the ball in the second half as they outscored Anoka-Ramsey 24-15 in the final quarter.

The Golden Rams shot 47.1 percent overall and made 8 of 21 from three.

Mikayla Homola continued her streak of high-scoring games with 32 points, her fifth straight game with 29 points or more.

Sandifer scored a season-high 25 points on 10 of 17 shooting.

Adams finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, and six steals.

The Golden Rams are now 14-3 overall, 3-0 in the MCAC Southern Division, and will host conference rival Rochester on Saturday, January 19 at 1:00pm.
