Defense again leads the way for two Golden Ram wins

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women's Basketball team once again had two stellar defensive performances in beating Mesabi Range and Vermilion this past weekend.

The two wins gave Anoka-Ramsey a sweep of their Northern Division opponents for this season.

On Friday night the Golden Rams forced 37 Mesabi turnovers in a 83-55 rout.  The Golden Rams are averaging 33 forced turnovers per game this season.

Charo Nickens lead the scoring with 20 points on a perfect 9 for 9 from the field.

Mikayla Homola scored 17 ponits and added four steals.

Nana Montgomery scored 13 points making 4 of 8 from the three-point line while Chyanne Nickens scored 11 points off the bench.

Adaya Sandifer dished out ten assists.

 

On Saturday the Golden Rams faced Vermilion and held them to 42.2 percent shooting from the field while out-rebouding Vermilion 46-24 in the 110-72 win.

Five Golden Rams reached double-digit points led by Homola's 21 points on 8 of 15 shooting.

Sandifer scored 18 points to go with nine rebounds and five assists.

Charo Nickens had 16 points and five rebounds.

Maddy Craig put up 14 points to go with ten rebounds and Chyanne Nickens scored 13 points making all five field goal attempts.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 56.2 percent overall.

 

The Golden Rams improve to 8-2 overall and will host Bismarck State on Friday at 5:00pm, followed by hosting the St. Thomas JV Saturday at 4:00pm.
