The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women's Basketball team recorded two emphatic wins to open the 2018-2019 season this past weekend.

On Friday night the Golden Rams took down Madison College 89-52, followed by a Saturday afternoon win over Gogebic 84-44.

Against Madison the Golden Rams opened the game by scoring 20 of the first 22 points and took a 25-9 lead at the end of the first.

Madison responded with the first five points of the second quarter but Mikayla Homola scored five straight of her own on a layup and one of her five 3-point field goals.

A jumper by Maddy Craig, another three from Homola and a layup from Charo Nickens pushed the lead to 45-24 at halftime.

The Wolfpack open the third quarter with five straight points again before the Golden Rams re-established both their offense and defense.  Adaya Sandifer socred a layup followed by an Abby Howe jumper and two Homola layups pushed the lead to back to 20 points.

A 10-0 run midway through the period increased the margin to 30 points and the Wolfpack would get no closer than 25 the rest of the way.

Homola poured in 31 points on 12 of 22 shooting including 5 of 13 from 3.

Saturday afternoon saw the Golden Rams start slower than the previous day with a 21-13 lead after one, but three from MacKenna Brown capped a 14-4 run to open the second quarter and the Golden Rams led by 18.

Gogebic pulled within 15 points at 37-22 before a McKenna Anderson three sparked a 7-0 spurt from the Golden Rams to push the lead back over 20 points.

Homola completed a three-point play and was fouled on a 3-point attempt, making all three free throws, for a 53-26 lead at halftime.

Homola continued to pour in the points scoring the first eight points of the third quarter for her own personal 14 point run to blow the game open.

Two free throws from Raiyne Adams and a three from Maleigha Singeton-Buchanan extended the lead over 40 points and the Golden Rams cruised from there.
