Golden Rams Withstand Late Rally to Beat St. Cloud Tech

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women's Basketball team used strong second and third quarters, then hung on in the fourth for a 73-64 win over St. Cloud Technical and Community College on Saturday afternoon in Coon Rapids.

The Golden Rams took a 14-11 lead into the second quarter before the Cyclones took a 20-19 lead with 4:27 to play before halftime.

From there Anoka-Ramsey started to take over.

Amanda Lindsay scored 12 straight points over the next three minutes to give the Golden Rams a 31-20 lead.

After a Cyclone basket, Kaylee Porisch added four straight to build the lead to 13 points and Anoka-Ramsey would lead 35-24 at the break.

Another Lindsay three opened the third period as the Cyclones were kept at bay throughout the period.

But SCTCC would make a fourth quarter run.

With Anoka-Ramsey leading 62-48 it appeared as though they had the game in hand.  The Cyclones would score the next ten points to pull within four with 2:45 to play.

Meagan Mckernon would convert a three-point play and Porisch made a free throw to end the Cyclone run and regain an eight point advantage.

From there the Golden Rams would seal the game from the free throw line, making seven of their final eight attempts to hold off St. Cloud Tech and earn their fourth straight win.

Anoka-Ramsey held a 22-13 edge in free throws which proved to be the difference in the game.

Mckernon finished with 26 points and added 11 rebounds.

Lindsay scored 23 to go with 12 rebounds.

Porisch scored 21 and hauled in 13 rebounds. while blocking seven shots.

The Golden Rams are now 4-0 in the MCAC Southern Division, 6-10 overall.  The Golden Rams will next travel to Worthington on Wednesday, January 24 to take on Minnesota West.
