Golden Rams Use Big 2nd, 4th Quarters in Defeat of M|State

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women's Basketball team used big second and fourth quarters to outlast M|State Fergus Falls 77-64 on Wednesday night to improve to 3-0 in conference play.

The teams played to a 14-14 tie at the end of the first with neither team leading by more than three points through the first ten minutes.

Trailing 20-16 the Golden Rams then went on a 15-2 run over a three minute strecth of the second quarter to build a nine point lead.

A three from Kaylee Porisch put Anoka-Ramsey up ten and Porisch would score on a layup to end the half with Anoka-Ramsey up 41-29.

The Golden Rams shot 11 of 18 in the second quarter.

The Spartans wouldn't go away quietly though as they began to chip away in the third.

After Jerusalem Solomon gave Anoka-Ramsey a 14 point lead at 43-29 the Spartans ripped off an 8-0 run to pull within six.

Porisch scored a layup in response but the Spartans scored the next seven points to cut the deficit to 45-44 with 4:25 left in the period.

A Meagan Mckernon free throw put the Golden Rams back up two and M|State tied the score on their next possession.

Five points from Porisch and two Amanda Lindsay free throws countered three points from M|State as the Golden Rams led 53-49 after three.

M|State pulled back within two points but a 9-0 Golden Ram run extended the lead to 11 points and the Spartans would get no closer than nine the rest of the way.

Anoka-Ramsey finished the night shooting 41.5 percent and hit six threes.  The Golden Rams also held a 17-12 edge in made free throws.

Porisch continued her hot streak scoring 32 points and pulling in 16 rebounds.

Mckernon finished with 21 points to go with nine rebounds.

Lindsay chipped in 17 points making all six of her free throw attempts.

The Golden Rams improve to 5-10 with their third straight win and will host St. Cloud Tech on Saturday, January 20 at 1:00pm.
