Women's Basketball Drops Opening Games

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women's Basketball team fell in their opening contests this past weekend, losing to Lake Region State 80-38 and the Jamestown JV 96-44 in Devils Lake, ND.

The Golden Rams, competing with six players, started slowly in both contests and were not able to recover.

In their first game vs. Lake Region, Anoka-Ramsey fell behind 18-0 and trailed 26-4 after the first quarter.

Meagan Mckernon and Amanda Lindsay each accounted for two free throws apiece in the opening period.

Anoka-Ramsey trailed 41-9 at halftime with all nine points coming from the free throw line.

The Golden Rams outscored Lake Region 19-17 in the third quarter making 5 of 11 field goals.

Lindsay finished with a game-high 14 points making 3 of 7 three-point attempts and 5 of 6 free throws.

Kaylee Porisch scored 12 points and Mckernon added ten points.

Anoka-Ramsey got to the free throw line 29 times, making 17 to just 3 of 9 for Lake Region.

In the Sunday morning contest vs Jamestown, the Golden Rams again fell behind early, 13-0 and trailed 27-8 at the end of the first.

Jamestown opened the second period on a 15-4 run to extend a lead that grew to 38 at halftime.

Much like the previous game, the Golden Rams fared better in the third quarter but were unable to make a signficant dent in the deficit.

Kaylee Porisch finished the game with 28 points.

Anoka-Ramsey will host Madison on Friday at 5pm, and Gogebic on Saturday at 4pm.
