Women's Basketball Wins Region XIII-A Title

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women's Basketball team won the 2017 NJCAA Region XIII-A Championship this past weekend defeating Minnesota West in the semifinals 85-75 before pulling away from Rochester to win 76-66 in the title game.

In the semifinal matchup the Golden Rams shot 47.1 percent overall and forced 23 Minnesota West turnovers.  Minnesota West shot just 4 of 18 from the three-point line while Anoka-Ramsey connected on 11 of 30 shot from beyond the arc.

In the championship game the Golden Rams faced a tough Rochester team that had beaten the Golden Rams back on February 22.

Anoka-Ramsey jumped out to a 8-0 lead as Alyssa Correll and Amanda Lindsay each connected on their first three-point attempts.

Rochester though trimmed the deficit to 13-11 with 4:40 left in the first period and the Golden Rams would lead 22-21 at the end of the first.

Rochester was able to take their first lead 26-24 early in the second quarter but consecutive threes from Rashonna Thomas put Anoka-Ramsey back up by four.

The Yellowjackets eventually retook a two point lead before a 4-0 spurt by Anoka-Ramsey ended the half with the Golden Rams up 40-38.

Correll connected on a three to begin the third quarter and the Golden Rams maintained a five point edge thru much of the quarter before a three from Lindsay gave Anoka-Ramsey a 55-47 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Anoka-Ramsey used a 10-4 run to open the fourth as another Correll three pushed the lead to 65-53.

Rochester battled back to within 66-60, but another Thomas three, and consecutive Correll threes put Anoka-Ramsey back up 75-66 with 1:29 left and seal the win.

The Golden Rams connected on 15 of 35 three-point attempts for the game.

Thomas scored 21 points making six threes.

Correll finished with 15 points making 5 of 6 from the three-point line.

Lateah Turmon scored 12 points with Lindsay and Dariel Lipscomb each tallying 11 points.

Lipscomb also pulled in 19 rebounds.

The Golden Rams will travel to Utica, New York for the NJCAA Division III National Tournament March 16-18.
