Golden Rams Force 32 Turnovers in Win over Western Tech

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women's Basketball team turned in a dominating defensive effort to beat Western Tech 81-59 on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Rams forced 32 Cavalier turnovers, recording 21 steals.

Anoka-Ramsey fell behind 6-0 early in the game and trailed 8-3 before a 7-1 run gave them their first lead 10-9.

Western Tech retook the lead 11-10 but Anoka-Ramsey would score the last 11 points of the first quarter over the final 4:34 to lead 21-11 heading into the second quarter.

The Cavaliers would hang around until a Lateah Turmon layup sparked a 14-2 run over the final four minutes of the second quarter and the Golden Rams would lead 46-23 at halftime.

Western Tech trimmed the deficit to 49-33, but back to back threes from Rashonna Thomas pushed the advantage back over 20 points.

A three from Amanda Lindsay gave the Golden Rams a 30 point lead, 66-36 with 2:18 left in the third period and the Cavaliers would not seriously threaten for the remainder of the game.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 44.8 percent from the three-point line, connecting on 13 of 29 shots from beyond the arc.

Thomas finished with 21 points to go with five steals.

Alyssa Correll knocked down five three pointers on her way to 17 points.

Kendell Martin tallied 17 points and six rebounds.

Lindsay would finish with ten points.

Turmon recorded seven points, eight rebounds, and six assists.

The Golden Rams improve to 14-6, winning their seventh straight game.

Anoka-Ramsey is off until Saturday, February 11 when they host M|State Fergus Falls at 1:00pm.
