Golden Rams Secure Overtime Road Win

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women's Basketball team went on the road to Rochester Community and Technical College and picked up a key MCAC Southern Division win 76-74 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Rams jumped on the Yellowjackets early taking a 7-0 lead.

Rochester battled back to pull within 14-13 with 2:27 to play in the first quarter before the Golden Rams used a 10-1 run to end the period ahead 24-14.

Baskets from Dariel Lipscomb and Alyssa Correll put Anoka-Ramsey up 28-14 to start the second period and the rest of the quarter would be played fairly even with Anoka-Ramsey leading 37-25 at halftime.

A Rashonna Thomas layup pushed the lead up to 15 points early in the third quarter, but a 8-0 Rochester run cut the deficit to 42-35 and the Golden Rams would lead 57-48 entering the fourth quarter.

Leading by nine with 7:15 to play, the Golden Rams would allow Rochester to go on a 10-3 and pull within two points, 65-63 with 1:35 left.

Two Thomas free throws put Anoka-Ramsey up 67-63.

Rochester would hit a three-pointer with 47 seconds to play to pull within one.

Thomas missed a jumper late in the shot clock on the ensuing possession and a Golden Ram foul with 13 seconds to play put Rochester at the line where they made one of two to tie the score. Anoka-Ramsey would miss a contested layup at the buzzer and the game headed to overtime.

Thomas made two free throws and a three to score the first five points of overtime and give Anoka-Ramsey a 72-67 lead.

Rochester scored the next four points to pull within one, but two Laya Sath free throws pushed the lead back to three with 20 seconds to play.

Rochester knocked down a three-pointer with six seconds remaining to tie the score, but the Golden Rams would go the length of the court and Lateah Turmon was fouled with less than a second remaining.  Turmon knocked down both free throws and Rochester was unable to get a final shot off.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 8 of 18 from the three-point line and made 18 of 20 free throws.

Thomas finished with 31 points on 9 of 20 shooting including 4 of 9 from three, and 9 of 10 free throws.

Turmon finished with 17 points and ten rebounds.

Correll scored 16 points.

Lipscomb pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds.

The #9 ranked Golden Rams have now won five straight and are in first place in the MCAC Southern Division at 5-0, 12-6 overall.
