Women's Basketball Gets Hot from 3 in win over M|State

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women's Basketball team shot 11 for 21 (52.4 percent) from the three-point line to defeat M|State Fergus Falls 70-52 on Wednesday evening in Fergus Falls.

The Golden Rams led 17-10 after the first quarter and built a 23-12 lead with 7:20 left in the second quarter after a Kendell Martin layup.

M|State countered by scoring the next five points to pull within 23-17 before layups from Rashonna Thomas, Alyssa Correll, and Amanda Lindsay would give the Golden Rams a 29-22 lead at halftime.

Four different players would connect on three-point field goals in the third quarter as Anoka-Ramsey began to pull away and lead 51-37 with 3:14 to play in the third.

But M|State responded by scoring the final four points of the period and Anoka-Ramsey led by ten entering the fourth quarter.

Correll connected on a three to start the fourth.

After five straight points from the Spartans, Lateah Turmon would make a layup followed by another Correll three and three layups from Thomas in a 11-2 Golden Ram run to effectively put the game away.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 44.6 percent overall and forced 21 M|State turnovers.

M|State shot just 3 of 20 from the three-point line.

Thomas scored 22 points connecting on 4 of 7 threes.

Correll finished with 19 points making 5 of 6 from beyond the arc.

The Golden Rams have now won four of their last five games to improve to 9-6 on the season, 2-0 in MCAC Southern Division play.

Next up is a trip to St. Cloud to face St. Cloud Technical and Community College on Saturday, January 21 at 1:00pm.
