Strong Defensive Effort Leads to Women's Basketball Win

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women's Basketball team used a strong defensive effort to dispatch Western Tech 86-35 on Wednesday evening in La Crosse, WI.

The Golden Rams jumped out to a 14-0 lead thanks to two three pointers from Laya Sath and one each from Amanda Lindsay and Rashonna Thomas.

The lead was built to 19-1 and the Golden Rams led 22-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Anoka-Ramsey went on a 11-3 run to open the second quarter and the lead swelled to 25 at halftime, 41-16.

The third quarter proved to be much of the same from the first half as the Anoka-Ramsey defense continued to force difficult shots as well as turnovers in building a 30-point lead that increased to over 40 in the fourth quarter.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 45.8 percent overall and connected on a season-high 15 shots from beyond the three-point line.

Western Tech was 14 of 46 (30.4 percent) from the field and committed 31 turnovers.

Thomas led the scoring with 24 points making 5 of 10 three-pointers to go with nine steals and eight rebounds.

Lindsay and Sath each scored 14 points.

Lateah Turmon chipped in with ten points and eight assists.

Dariel Lipscomb pulled down 12 rebounds.

Anoka-Ramsey improves to 8-6 overall, 1-0 in MCAC Southern Division play.

The Golden Rams are off until Wednesday, January 18 when they travel to M|State Fergus Falls.
