Women's Basketball Drops Two to D1 Foes

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women's Basketball team dropped two games to NJCAA Division I teams on their Thanksgiving weekend trip to Arizona.

In Game 1 vs. Cochise College the Golden Rams faced a tough defense that wouldn't allow many easy opportunities.

Anoka-Ramsey fell behind 9-3 six minutes into the game but hung around to only trail 13-6 at the end of the first quarter.

Cochise used a 16-5 to open the second quarter and build an 18 point lead.  The Golden Rams wound up trailing 46-16 at halftime and shot just 3 for 23 from the field in the first half.

Anoka-Ramsey fared better in the second half keeping the periods fairly even throughout, but ultimately fell 80-44.

In Game 2 vs. Arizona Western, the Golden Rams once again would struggle shooting from the field in a 76-40 loss, making just 2 of 20 three-point attempts.

Anoka-Ramsey got on the board first with a field goal from Dariel Lipscomb, and led 8-7 after a Rashonna Thomas bucket.

Arizona Western would outscore the Golden Rams 12-1 the rest of the period to take a 19-9 lead into the second quarter.

Anoka-Ramsey pulled within eight points with 5:51 left in the period after a Lateah Turmon score, and the Golden Rams hung tight with the Matadors to trail 34-20 at halftime.

Two Lipscomb free throws and a Kieara Hunter field goal cut the deficit to ten, 34-24 early in the third period, but Arizona Western answered with an 8-0 to take a 42-24 lead and the Golden Rams couldn't recover from there.

The Golden Rams forced 23 turnovers but committed 26 themselves.

Lipscomb finished with 12 points making 6 of 9 from the free throw line to go with seven rebounds.

Turmon scored 11 points on 4 of 7 from the field.

Anoka-Ramsey falls to 1-4 on the season facing a difficult schedule.

The Golden Rams will travel to Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College on Friday, December 2 for a 5:45pm game followed by another road game at Central Lakes College on December 3 at 1:00pm.
