Golden Rams Fight Back, Can't Overcome Milwaukee

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women's Basketball team fought back from a 24 point deficit but ultimately fell 66-61 to Milwaukee Area Tech on Thursday evening.

The Golden Rams started slow in falling behind 25-9 after just one quarter.  Anoka-Ramsey failed to score in the final 5:50 of the period as Milwaukee ran off 13 straight points.

A jumper by Laya Sath followed by a three-pointer from Amanda Lindsay and a jumper from Dariel Lipscomb and the Golden Rams had trimmed the deficit to 25-16, but Milwaukee would rebuild a double digit lead and take a 35-23 advantage into halftime.

Anoka-Ramsey struggled to score at the outset of the third period, eventually falling behind 49-25 with 5:41 left in the period.

But that's when they would start to make their comeback.

Rashonna Thomas hit a three-pointer followed by two Alyssa Correll field goals.  Then five straight from Thomas plus a three-point play from Lipscomb and the deficit had been reduced to 51-40 entering the fourth quarter.

The run would continue with Anoka-Ramsey scoring the first ten points of the fourth quarter with five points credited to Thomas, plus a layup from Lipscomb and another three-pointer from Correll.

Milwaukee responded with the next five points to take a 56-50 lead with 5:27 to play.

Consecutive field goals from Lateah Turmon cut the deficit back to two, but Milwaukee responded with four straight to push the lead back to six.

Anoka-Ramsey pulled within one again after a layup by Turmon, 60-59.

Milwaukee would hit a three on their next possession to go back up four.

Lipscomb drove and scored to pull within 63-61 with 28 seconds left but Milwaukee would seal the game from the free throw line.

Anoka-Ramsey shot just 32.9 percent overall and made 10 of 39 three-point attempts.

Milwaukee held a 41-32 edge on the boards and made 16 free throws to just three for the Golden Rams.

Thomas finished with 21 points and Correll added 13.

Lipscomb pulled in 13 rebounds.

The Golden Rams fall to 1-2 on the season and will travel to Arizona for two games November 25-26.
