Women's Basketball Defeats Gogebic 69-62

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women's Basketball team bounced back to defeat Gogebic 69-62 on Saturday afternoon.

Early in the first period, sophomore Rashonna Thomas scored five straight points turn a one point deficit into a four point lead which was extended to five after a Gogebic free throw and a jumper from Lateah Turmon.

Anoka-Ramsey would lead 18-15 after the first.

A three-pointer from Denesha Dixon extended the lead to 26-19 with 7:19 to play in the second quarter.

Two Amanda Lindsay free throws would give Anoka-Ramsey a 28-22 lead.

The Golden Ram advantage was pushed to ten following a layup from Lindsay with 1:46 left and Anoka-Ramsey would lead 36-28 at halftime.

Gogebic struck first in the third quarter to trim the deficit to six, but a three-pointer from Meagan Nelson, and a jumper from Thomas pushed the lead to 41-30.

Anoka-Ramsey continued to extend the lead with Dariel Lipscomb scoring to make the score 49-35 with 4:06 left in the period.

But Gogebic went on a 18-4 run spanning the end of the third and beginning of the fourth quarters to tie the score 53-53 with 7:21 left.

Another Lindsday layup would break the tie and a three-pointer from Nelson pushed the lead back to five points and Anoka-Ramsey would ride out the win from there.

The Golden Rams shot 37.3 percent from the floor but owned the offensive glass with a 15-8 advantage while also forcing 20 and committing only 15.

Thomas led the scoring with 20 points to go with five steals.

Dariel Lipscomb had a monster game on the boards pulling in 24 rebounds including nine on the offensive end to go with 15 points.

Turmon and Lindsay each chipped in nine points while Nelson finished with eight.

Anoka-Ramsey is now 1-1 on the season and will host Milwaukee Tech on Thursday, November 17 at 6:00pm
