Women's Basketball Falls to Madison 85-73

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Women's Basketball team dropped their first game of the season 85-73 to Madison College on Friday evening.

The Golden Rams led 17-13 with 2:21 left in the first quarter, but a 7-0 run by Madison gave the Wolfpack a 20-17 lead at the end of the first.

Anoka-Ramsey pulled within one, 23-22 on a three-pointer from Rashonna Thomas.

The Golden Rams still trailed by one, 31-30 with three minutes left in the half before Madison used a 10-2 run to go ahead 41-32 and eventually led 45-37 at halftime.

Madison pushed the lead to ten, 49-39 and still led by ten, 60-50 with 2:46 to play in the third.

But Anoka-Ramsey wasn't done yet.

Another three-pointer from Thomas sparked a 9-0 Golden Ram run, capped off by a Dariel Lipscomb layup, to pull within 60-59 entering the fourth quarter.

The Wolfpack had too much firepower to start the fourth and built their lead back up to nine points with four minutes to play.

A Lateah Turmon layup cut the deficit to seven, 70-63 with 3:13 left but that's as close as the Golden Rams would get the rest of the way.

Thomas led the Golden Rams with 26 points while also grabbing ten rebounds and recording six steals.

Lipscomb scored 24 points to go with ten rebounds.

Turmon finished with nine points.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 34.5 percent from the field, and just 4 for 31 from the three-point line.

Madison shot 58.6 percent overall and outrebounded the Golden Rams 41-32 while also committing 29 turnovers.

Anoka-Ramsey will face Gogebic at 4:00pm Saturday at Anoka-Ramsey.
