Softball Earns Sweep over Riverland and Rochester

This past weekend the Anoka-Ramsey CC Golden Rams faced MCAC Southern Division opponents Riverland and Rochester and came away with a pair of wins over each team. The Golden Rams defeated Riverland on Friday, May 3, 15-0 & 18-0 and they beat RCTC on Saturday, May 4, 11-3 & 11-0.

The Golden Rams received great pitching all weekend by Bailey Zenk and Sunny Strait. Combined the two pitchers in four total games struck out 24 batters, only gave up 10 hits and didn't allow an earned run. Very impressive! Strait now has 11 wins and Zenk has 9.

Offensively, the Anoka-Ramsey bats were on fire! The team hit 13 home runs on the weekend led by Zenk and Strait who each had a game where they hit 3 apiece. They know have hit 16 and 13 home runs each. Currently, the Golden Rams are tied for the most HR's in the nation at 42. Along with the home runs, the team rattled off 61 hits; Zenk – 9, Anna Wagner/Chloe Vezies – 8, Strait -7, Cleopatra Nystrom – 6, and Ashley Stepaniak, Megan Iverson, Emily Robinette, Cassie Benson and Brooke Harder all with 5 hits. Currently the Golden Rams have the 5th highest batting average in the nation at .424 and the 2nd highest slugging % at .666.

The Golden Rams are now 20-15 overall and 13-3 (2nd place) in the MCAC Southern Division. Next up for Anoka-Ramsey is a showdown with nationally ranked and the current 1st place team in the MCAC South, St. Cloud CTC, at home on Tuesday, May 7, 3/5 pm.
