Softball Fights Tough with DCTC to Earn Split

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Softball team squared off with Dakota County Tech at home yesterday in a non-conference doubleheader with the Golden Rams losing game one 5-1 and winning game two 1-0.

Game one was a pitcher's duel through the first five innings of play. Both teams had runners in scoring position but neither could get a run across until the top of the sixth inning.

This is when DCTC took advantage of a Golden Ram error. With bases loaded and one out, the Blue Knights ripped a double to right centerfield scoring two.

From there DCTC put together a few more hits for a five run inning. Anoka-Ramsey did score a run in the bottom of the seventh when Sunny Strait delivered an RBI single. Strait pitched well, but took the loss.

Game two was a classic, old school softball game. Both pitchers were tough as nails with neither pitcher wanting to give in.

The Golden Rams managed the game's only run in the bottom of the third inning when Cassie Benson delivered a shot to the right centerfield gap for her 1st career triple and scored on Cleopatra Nystrom's ground out to second.

The Golden Rams loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth, but couldn't get another insurance run. Though as it would turn out, another run wasn't needed, as Bailey Zenk kept the Blue Knights off balance all game.

Zenk only allowed 5 hits while garnering back to back shut-outs. Bailey now has a 16 inning scoreless streak and is 6-3 on the season.

The Golden Rams are now 13-12 overall and 7-3 in the MCAC Southern Division. Next up for the team is an away match-up with non-conference opponent, St. Thomas JV. Game times are 4:00pm and 5:45 pm.
