Golden Rams Sweep Four Southern Division Games

Golden Rams Sweep Four Southern Division Games

This past weekend, April 19-20, the Golden Rams of Anoka-Ramsey Community College traveled to Rochester and Austin and came away with a perfect 4-0 record.

The opening game in Rochester on Friday, April 19, saw Anoka-Ramsey jump to an early 3-0 lead after one inning and never looked back. Sunny Strait threw one of her best games of the season striking out four and only allowing three hits. This was Strait's 7th win of the season. At the dish, the Golden Rams collected 18 hits. Going a perfect 4-4 were Cleopatra Nystrom and Bailey Zenk. Strait followed with 3 hits and getting two hits a piece were Anna Wagner and Chloe Vezies.

The closing game once again saw the Golden Rams take a commanding early 9-0 lead after 2.5 innings of play. Then for some unknown reason, the Golden Rams went into hibernation and saw their lead slip to 9-8 after five innings. In the last two innings, Anoka-Ramsey awoke from hibernation and scored five more runs to close out Rochester by a score of 14-9. Zenk picked up her 3rd win of the season and Strait picked up her 1st save of the year.

Zenk led the way again at the plate again producing 2 doubles and driving 4 runs with 3 hits. Brooke Harder also had 3 hits in the nine hole for the Golden Rams. Four other Golden Rams had two hit games: Ashley Stepaniak, Cassie Benson, Strait and Wagner. Benson and Strait also had 3 RBI's.

On Saturday, April 20, the Golden Rams traveled to Riverland and once again came away with two wins by the scores of 17-0 & 18-2. "We swung the bat very well again, along with pitching at a high level", said Anoka-Ramsey Head Coach Dave Alto. "We have talked about playing to our ability, and this weekend was a step in the right direction. The whole team is contributing which makes this very fun to watch."

Anoka-Ramsey is now 12-11 overall and 6-2 in MCAC Southern Division play. The Golden Rams will host the Spartans of M-State at home on Tuesday, April 23 at 3pm and 5pm to close out the first round of division play.
