Softball Drops a Pair on the Road

On Tuesday, April 9, the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Softball Team traveled to Waite Park, MN to open MCAC Southern Division play against Division favorite St. Cloud Technical and Community College and dropped a pair of games by the scores of 12-9 and 9-6.

The first game started out promising as the Golden Rams jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 2nd on four hits and a Cyclone throwing error. Then the game got ugly in the bottom of the 2nd when St. Cloud Tech scored 10 runs. Five Golden Rams errors contributed to this fiasco. Anoka-Ramsey fought back in the top of the 3rd and scored 5 runs to narrow the score to 10-8 but the Golden Rams could not put much together the remainder of the game. Bailey Zenk and Chloe Vezies led the Golden Rams with three hits apiece and Anna Wagner continued her hot hitting driving in 2 runs.

The second game once again saw Anoka-Ramsey start in a hole as the Cyclones scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st to take a 4-0 lead. The Golden Rams fought back in this one once again and took the lead 5-4 after 4.5 innings of play. The team scored 4 runs in the top of the 5th with 5 consecutive hits. St. Cloud Tech tied the score in the bottom of the 5th and they took the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning to help seal the win. The Golden Rams pounded out 13 hits but left 10 runners on base. Having a multi-hit game were Megan Iverson, Sunny Strait, Cassie Benson, Wagner and Zenk with Wagner also driving in three runs.

Anoka-Ramsey is now 6-11 overall and 0-2 in the MCAC Southern Division. Next up for the Golden Rams are the Warriors from Ridgewater on Tuesday, April 16 at their home field in Cambridge.
