Softball Picks Up Three More Wins

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Softball Team traveled to Rochester this weekend, April 5-6 and came away winning 3 of their 4 games.

Game one saw the Golden Rams get beat by Dakota College at Bottineau by a score of 7-2. The team got behind early giving up 6 unearned runs in the 1st inning and they never could recover. Offensively, Anoka-Ramsey could only muster one hit and that was a home run by Bailey Zenk.

Game two saw the Golden Rams bounce back with a 17-7 five inning win over Northland. Anoka-Ramsey scored 11 runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. Anna Wagner, Cleopatra Nystrom and Ashley Stepaniak all contributed 2 RBI's that inning with Stepaniak's coming from her 2nd home run of the season. Also contributing at the plate with two hits a piece were Sunny Strait, Chloe Vezies and Brooke Harder. Zenk picked up her 2nd win of the season scattering 8 hits while only giving up one earned run.

Game three on Saturday morning saw the Golden Rams face a highly regarded Itasca Viking team. The Vikings had the lead all game until the bottom of the 7th inning. Anoka-Ramsey was down to its last out with nobody on base when the rally took place. Stepaniak drew a 2-out walk, the Megan Iverson hit her 3rd double of the game off of the left field fence to score Stepaniak. Next, Zenk followed with an RBI single back up the gut to tie the score at 6 apiece. Then Strait hit a fly ball to right field that was misplaced by the Itasca right fielder enabling the Golden Rams to come away with a 7-6 come from behind victory. Strait won her 3rd game of the young season striking out 5 while surrendering 11 hits.

Game four started as a softball game and ended as a football score. Anoka-Ramsey won the slugfest by a score of 19-14 over Gogebic from Michigan. The Golden Rams pounded out 19 hits including 5 home runs. Zenk and Strait hit 2 home runs a piece with Iverson contributing 1. The same three players accounted for 14 of the teams 19 RBI's. It was a tremendous display of hitting by the Golden Rams with Nystrom, Wagner, Vezies and Emily Robinette having a multi-hit game. Zenk started in the circle but only could last two innings, so Strait came in to help secure the win.

Anoka-Ramsey is now 6-9 on season winning 6 of their last 7 games. The Golden Rams open up the MCAC Southern Division schedule at St. Cloud Tech on Tuesday, April 9 at Waite Park. This will be an early test for the top two teams in the division.
