Softball Falls to Parkland, Spoon River

On Monday, March 11, the Anoka-Ramsey CC Golden Rams dropped a pair of games on their Florida spring trip.

Game one had the Golden Rams squaring off against perennial NJCAA DII power Parkland College out of Michigan. The game was tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the second inning when trouble erupted. Parkland put up nine runs by mixing in five hits with five walks. The Golden Rams managed one more run along the way but ended up losing 11-3 in five innings.

Game two also saw Anoka-Ramsey face another DII school, Spoon River. The game saw the Golden Rams leading 4-1 most of the way until the bottom of the 6th inning when Spoon River tied the game 4-4. In the top of the 7th, Sunny Strait drove in Megan Iverson from 3rd base with a single and it appeared the Golden Rams were going to notch their first "W" of the young season, but Spoon River had a different idea.

Spoon River hits a two run walkoff homerun for the come from behind win 6-5. This was a tough loss for Anoka-Ramsey because the team outplayed their opponent but the giving up of six outs on the bases was too much to overcome. Offensively the team was led by Iverson who was 3-4 with 2 RBI's and Bailey Zenk who was 3-4. Also getting two hits a piece were Cleopatra Nystrom, Ashley Stepaniak and Chloe Vezies. Strait was the pitcher of record who threw another strong game, but couldn't get the win.

The Golden Rams are now 0-6 on the season. Their final games of the Florida spring trip are scheduled for Tuesday, March 12 against Crowder and Lewis and Clark Colleges.
