Golden Rams Top MN West 84-72

The Anoka-Ramsey Men's Basketball team broke a three-game losing streak with an 84-72 win over MN West on Monday afternoon.

The Golden Rams led 34-28 with three minutes left in the first half, but used a 6-1 spurt to go into the break up 40-29.

MN West closed the gap to 44-42 four minutes into the second half before D.J. Pettigrew and Bennett Olson hit threes in a 6-2 run to go back up by six.

Back-to-back jumpers from Pettigrew extended the lead to eight, with the advantage growing to 12 points, 70-58 with four minutes left.

The Bluejays were within seven with two minutes to go but the Golden Rams made 12 of 14 free throws down the stretch to hold on.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 37.9 percent overall, but made 27 of 32 free throws (84.4 percent) while forcing 22 turnovers.

Nashiem Lozier scored 25 points to go with eight rebounds and six steals.

Pettigrew added 24 points on six of six from the free throw line.

Beau Nelson scored 11 of his 13 points in the first half, making 3 of 5 from the three-point line.

The Golden Rams improve to 11-14 overall, 3-8 in the MCAC, and will host Rochester on Wednesday, February 19 at 6:00pm.
