The Anoka-Ramsey Men's Basketball team fell 98-72 to Riverland on Saturday afternoon for their first MCAC Southern Division loss of the season.
The Golden Rams hung around with the Blue Devils, who entered the game with just one loss on the season, but Riverland held the Golden Rams to just 34 second half points and 39.4 percent shooting for the win.
For the first 18 minutes neither team led by more than four points. The Golden Rams were up 38-37 with 3:11 left in the first half, but the Blue Devils closed the period on a 9-0 run to lead 46-38 at half.
The Blue Devils extended the run into the second half, scoring the first five points to take a double digit lead.
Anoka-Ramsey pulled within ten, 55-45, on a Terrell Fountain free throw before a four point Riverland spurt extended the lead back to 14 points.
A ten minute scoring slump, where Anoka-Ramsey managed just three points, essentially put the game away as Riverland went on a 19-3 run to go up 89-61 with four minutes to play.
Anoka-Ramsey entered the game as one of the MCAC's top three-point shooting teams, but hit on just 2 of 12 attempts from beyond the arc, compared to 13 of 35 for Riverland.
Fountain led Anoka-Ramsey with 20 points on 7 of 12 from the field and 6 of 7 free throws.
Antoin Watson Jr. scored 11 points off the bench.
The Golden Rams drop to 8-7 overall, 1-1 in the MCAC Southern Division, and will travel to Ridgewater on Wednesday, January 15 for a 7:30pm tip.
