Hot Shooting Propels Golden Rams to Win

The Anoka-Ramsey Men's Basketball team shot a season-high 58.3 percent from the three-point line, making 14 of 24 attempts, to dispatch the M|State Fergus Falls Spartans in MCAC action Wednesday night.

Anoka-Ramsey knocked down seven threes in each half and shot 54.1 percent overall in the win.

With the score tied at 29 apiece, Jalen Dunlap knocked down a jumper followed by a Beau Nelson three and Justin Castro layup to give the Golden Rams a 36-29 lead with 3:52 left in the first.

The lead was pushed to ten after a Nashiem Lozier layup before the teams settled on a 44-36 score at halftime in favor of the Golden Rams.

Anoka-Ramsey opened the second half on a 11-4 run to extend the lead to 15 points.

The lead was trimmed back down to nine before a Lozier three pushed it back to double digits.

Jackson Odegard exploded for eight straight Golden Ram points on two threes and a back door layup to give Anoka-Ramsey a 76-60 lead with 8:51 left.

But the pesky Spartans didn't back down.

M|State cut the deficit to nine with 5:58 to play, then down to six with 23 seconds to go with a chance to pull closer.  But a big defensive stop and two Castro free throws ultimately put the game away for the Golden Rams.

The Golden Rams had five players in double figures led by 20 from Castro.

Dunlap scored 17 followed by Nelson with 15.

DeAndre Jones scored 14 points to go with ten rebounds in just his third game back from knee surgery.

Lozier chipped in with ten points.

The Golden Rams improve to 9-7 overall, 2-1 in the MCAC, and will host Rochester on Saturday, January 19 at 3:00pm.
