St. Thomas JV Defeats Golden Rams

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Men's Basketball team dropped their third straight game, falling 85-69 to the St. Thomas JV on Tuesday night.

The Golden Rams, playing without two starters, couldn't overcome a poor shooting performance from the three-point line in the defeat.

St. Thomas knocked down 15 of 31 three-point attempts compared to just 5 of 23 for the Golden Rams.

Anoka-Ramsey fell behind 25-10 in the first half but a three-pointer from Jalen Dunlap sparked a 13-1 run to trim the deficit to three points.

The Tommies extended the lead back to eight points before Anoka-Ramsey closed the half on a 8-4 spurt to pull within 39-35 at the break.

Beau Nelson scored a layup to open the second half but the Tommies responded with a 16-4 run to build a 55-41 lead with 15 minutes to play.

Sophomore Justin Castro scored scored eight points and assisted on three more during an 11-2 run to pull the Golden Rams back within five points at the ten minute mark.

But two quick threes and a layup from St. Thomas pushed the Golden Ram deficit back up to double digits and Anoka-Ramsey couldn't recover.

The Tommies shot 51.6 percent overall and outrebounded Anoka-Ramsey 36-29.

Castro led all scorers with 22 points making 9 of 16 field goals.

Steven Colon scored 13 points off the bench.

Dunlap and Romello Wilson each chipped in nine points.

Anoka-Ramsey is 2-3 overall and will host Fond du Lac at 7:30pm on Friday, November 30.
