Golden Rams Top Warriors 85-72

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Men's Basketball team beat Ridgewater College 85-72 on Wednesday evening to finish the first half of MCAC Southern Division play 6-1.

The 6-1 league mark is tops in the Division, one game ahead of Rochester and Riverland.

A slow start for the Golden Rams saw them behind 16-4 six minutes into the game.

A layup from Justin Castro and three-point play from Chris Morgan trimmed the deficit to 16-9 before two Ridgewater free throws put the Warrior lead back up to nine.

Morgan scored a layup followed by threes from Kevin Schramm and DeAndre Jones in an 8-2 run to pull Anoka-Ramsey back to within 20-17 with 12 minutes left in the half.

Ridgewater went back up 26-19 before a Morgan dunk jump-started a 11-0 Golden Ram run to take a 30-26 lead.

The Warriors fought back to regain the lead 38-34 with 4:30 left in the half before five straight points from Jackson Odegard put Anoka-Ramsey back up one as the Golden Rams would take a 45-43 lead into the break.

The second half was all Anoka-Ramsey.

After Ridgewater tied the score at 47, Anoka-Ramsey used a 7-0 spurt to retake command.

Seven straight points from Schramm pushed the lead to 63-49 with 15:43 to play, and five straight from Jones plus a three from Odegard gave Anoka-Ramsey a 73-54 advantage with ten minutes left.

From there the lead would never get below double digits as Anoka-Ramsey cruised for the win.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 49.3 percent overall and connected on 10 of 28 three-point attempts.

Schramm scored 26 points on 10 of 19 shooting and added eight rebounds to go with five assists.

Morgan finished with 19 points and pulled down 15 rebounds.

Odegard scored 16 points making 4 of 5 from behind the arc.

The Golden Rams improve to 12-8 overall, 6-1 in the MCAC and will host Western Tech on Saturday, February 3rd at 3:00pm
